Vancouver, BC, September 2024 — CURRENT Scientific Corporation (CURRENT), a leading Canadian manufacturer of electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) camera systems, is set to showcase its NN808X-180 integrated Long Range + Panoramic EO/IR system at a major demonstration of networked hard kill technology for Counter-Uncrewed Aerial System (CUAS) applications in the Middle East later this month. The event, sponsored by the U.S. Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), will highlight advanced air defense technologies aimed at enhancing situational awareness and response times in complex environments.
The NN808X-180 represents the pinnacle of CURRENT's panoramic thermal imaging cameras and long-range multispectral pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras. Engineered for seamless network integration, CURRENT systems deliver exceptional situational awareness and long-range Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The NN808X-180 combines Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR), Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) and visible light sensors, and is specifically designed to withstand extreme heat and windblown sand conditions typical of desert environments.
In this demonstration, CURRENT's NN808X-180 operates in concert with MARSS's intelligent NiDAR platform, CUAS radars from Echodyne and SRC, and effectors from EOS and Northrop Grumman, to form a comprehensive detect-to-defeat Command and Control (C2) solution. The NN808X-180 feeds detailed multi-spectral video into NiDAR's proprietary AI pipeline, providing UAS target detection, acquisition and engagement, as well as visual confirmation of small to medium (Class 1 to 3) UAS targets. This sophisticated pipeline reduces the decision cycle from threat detection to engagement and defeat to mere seconds.
Early demonstrations at Fort Drum, New York, in August showcased the outstanding performance and reliability of CURRENT’s camera systems in defeating Class 1 and 2 drones. These systems have proven to be an essential link in the CUAS hard kill pipeline, solidifying CURRENT’s role in the forefront of tactical defense technology.
"We are proud to participate in this significant demonstration alongside other leading defense technology suppliers," said Greg Menzies, President of CURRENT. "Our NN808X-180 system represents our commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance the safety and operational effectiveness of our armed forces and allied personnel."
